On The Slopes
Gondolas and cable cars serve the 250km of marked piste above and below the tree line in the Serre Chevalier ski area, which stretches out above the town and across three ski villages. Spectacular mountain scenery and lots of sunshine complement the skiing, and the terrain is varied, with plenty of choice for all levels of ability.
For beginners alone there are 47 runs, ranging from nursery slopes to scenic runs on the mountain tops.
Intermediates can choose from 43 varied red runs, many of which take skiers through the woods and provide challenging descents.
There is extensive off-piste and adventurous black run skiing for advanced skiers, including the super fast Luc Alphand Olympic piste, massive moguls and steep descents.
Serre Chevalier is superb for snowboarding, with natural half pipes and a snow park
Off The Slopes
Chantemerle and Villeneuve have their own outdoor skating rinks and shops, Monêtier is well known for its hot spring bath, whilst nearby Briançon has indoor skating, indoor and outdoor swimming with water slides, bowling and a sports centre. Also popular with groups is shopping and exploring the fascinating maze of medieval streets in the ancient 13th Century fortified old town of Briançon. A free bus service links Briançon to the other villages in the valley and departs every 20 minutes approximately.
