Famed for the most dependable snow in the eastern seaboard and a vertical drop rivalling that of Aspen Colorado, Sunday River is a great choice for your school ski trip. With 132 groomed trails covering 743 acres over 8 interconnecting mountains, this large resort delivers mountains of possibility for all levels of skiers. Standards from beginner to enthusiastic intermediate are happiest here as every peak offers an easy route down, but there are some double-black diamond runs to test the truly daring!
On the slopes
Novice skiers start off in the dedicated ‘learn to ski’ areas at the South Ridge Base Lodge, but the distinguishing feature of the mountain is the excellent progressions and miles of fairly easy slopes, on which beginners can experience an array of different routes to build their skills and confidence. For the adventurous, choose from four terrain parks and two halfpipes, or challenge yourself on the steeper narrow black runs winding through the trees. Most of the trails at South Ridge and North Peak are illuminated for untutored night skiing during weekends and most holidays (end of December to mid-March). The Sunday River resort team offers an unsurpassed level of service that will deliver an action-packed trip. Visitors are proudly shown the state of the art snowmaking, which is switched on all the time. Whenever the conditions are right, Sunday River makes snow, and they claim you’ll have a hard time telling the difference between the man-made stuff and Mother Nature’s!
Off the slopes
There’s a choice of local restaurants and pubs, and the White Cap entertainment centre with video games and music. Bethel is just a few miles away for further après-ski activities.
