The Ziller Valley is a truly colossal ski area offering over 660km of varied skiing from open bowls to high-altitude glacier skiing at Hintertux. The world-famous resort of Mayrhofen lies at the top of the valley and is the spiritual centre but nursery ski areas are scattered liberally throughout the region so intermediate and advanced skiers can happily explore the different terrain in the area whilst beginners pick up confidence on the wide range of easy blue runs. The area also has excellent off-piste activities from the bright lights of Mayrhofen to local facilities in the numerous villages.
On the slopes
The Zillertal Super Ski Pass covers 172 ski lifts and 668km of piste, although most of our groups begin the week either on the local Spieljochbahn gondola in Fügen, or in nearby Hochfügen. Nursery slopes are plentiful and once you’ve mastered the basics, gondolas whisk you up to the skiing bowls of Hochzillertal, Hochfügen and Penken, and from there beginners can use a variety of lifts to progress on to the blue runs. Intermediates will enjoy the sheer amount of red run possibilities at a higher altitude whilst the advanced skier also has great opportunities and challenges at higher altitude, including skiing on the Hintertux Glacier which is also included on your lift pass. With a host of ski circuits accessed from the numerous villages along the valley floor each area has its own identity, and it’s so easy to ski somewhere new every day.
Off the slopes
The après-ski possibilities in the Zillertal are almost endless and within close proximity to our hotel. Ice-skating, swimming and bowling are available in Mayrhofen, Fügen and Zell am Ziller.
