The Skiarena Kärnten (Nassfeld- Hermagor) is a little known gem of a ski circuit. Located right on the border of Austria and Italy, the ski resort has a good snow record due to its high altitude, north-facing slopes and comprehensive snow cannon coverage. There is also a great selection of pistes and reputedly the longest gondola in Europe: from the village of Tröpolach (610m) the Millennium-Express gondola carries skiers rapidly to the Madritsche at 1,919m.
On the slopes
With 30 state-of-the-art cable cars and lifts and over 100km of slopes catering to all levels of expertise, Nassfeld enjoys a reputation as one of the largest, most attractive and snowy ski areas in Austria. Its popularity with UK schools has grown steadily over the years but it’s still very much an undiscovered gem in the mainstream ski market. Beginners are well catered for on the extensive wide and shallow nursery slopes in the Sonnleiten ski village. The 69 red runs in resort prove more than enough piste for intermediates to practice their skills in a varied environment, whilst the more advanced skier can take up the challenge of tackling the more difficult red runs or the 11 black runs. Snowboarders are also well catered for with the BoarderX Funpark at the Tressdorferalm and the Snowboard-Park twinpipe at the Gartnerkofel.
Off the slopes
The local area offers a variety of evening entertainments for our groups including bowling, curling, swimming, karaoke and pizza nights.
