The main skiing in Mallnitz is centred on the Angkogel Mountain, reaching a height close to 2,800m. Since the turn of the century the area has transformed itself with a huge investment in some spectacular lifts. The first and most remarkable of these is the Glacier Express, taking just eight minutes to reach the middle station at 2,200m high.
On the slopes
Beginners won't want to go much further from the middle station as there's an excellent beginners area right at the base of the lifts, featuring blue runs gently progressing to an easy red. Intermediates on the other hand can go all the way to the top by a six-seater gondola to 2,600m, where high speed detachable sixseater chairs and a few rope tows allow access right up to 3,107m. The runs are varied and long with wide open pistes and great snow - all high above the tree line. There's a high altitude cross country circuit up here too, one of many kilometres of trails in the region. Your ski pass includes access to two areas: Mallnitz Ankogel and Mölltal Glacier. A well developed ski-bus system connects the two sister ski resorts and this is where you will find the only glacier ski resort in Carinthia offering the longest skiing season across the whole country!
Off the slopes
You will find ice-skating and curling in resort, or you can take a relaxing swim in Mallnitz’s Tauernbad. There are also plenty of shops and bars and the village has numerous restaurants.
