The Saas Valley is a charming resort set against one of the most dramatic glacial backdrops in the Alps with the traffic-free town of Saas Fee at its centre. This high-altitude village boasts the world’s highest underground funicular system, the Metro Alpin, which provides skiers access to almost 150km of piste and the world’s highest revolving restaurant at 3,500m. Guaranteed snow, superb scenery and unspoilt villages.
On the slopes
At this altitude, snow is virtually guaranteed and with a vertical drop of 1,800m the resort enjoys some of the best skiing in the Alps on over 145km of piste. SkiPlan groups benefit from the area lift pass covering all 34 lifts and pistes. The area has excellent skiing for beginners with large nursery slopes at the edge of the village of Saas-Grund and Saas-Fee. The Maste 4’ blue slopes are wide and sunny and there is some great cruising above the Langfluh. With lots of wide open well groomed pistes, the Saas Valley is a paradise for intermediates. Groups start skiing in Saas-Grund and have a variety of exciting red runs in Saas-Grund itself including the challenging 4km Gletscherpiste. Groups then progress to Saas Fee, the Felskinn (2,974m) is a popular piste on which to improve those turns, whilst the Langfluh and Plattjen areas are better suited to those who like a steeper gradient. For the advanced skier there are a number of black runs whilst the top of the Felskinn offers some excellent powder skiing and steep and heavily mogulled runs.
Off the slopes
The picturesque villages in the Saas Valley still retain their original Valaisian farming feel whilst also housing a variety of designer ski shops, bars and cafés. The resort has a sports centre complete with a swimming pool and curling. Groups might also visit the ice rink, cinema, village museum and ice grotto.
