An outstanding choice for school groups the Vallnord area encompasses almost 100km of high-altitude skiing across two very different ski resorts – Arinsal and Arcalis. Like many resorts in the Pyrenees, Vallnord has benefitted from recent investment and modernisation.
On the slopes
Groups begin skiing in Pal, part of the Arinsal sector. The lift from the valley delivers skiers to La Caubella and a large network of green and blue runs, ideal for beginners learning to ski and for experienced skiers to do a warm-up run or two before heading deeper into Arinsal, where a wide choice of longer blues and reds, plus the occasional black run, awaits. In fact it’s possible to ski from Pal right through the Arinsal sector to the village of Cota at the other end of the valley on blue runs, so every level of skier can experience a sense of the scale of the resort. Further afield in Arcalis there are plenty of short, punchy blue and red runs close to the village centre, whilst the more adventurous skier will doubtless want to tackle the more length red and black runs higher up Les Portelles. Both areas have dedicated freestyle parks and freeride sections, whilst moguls, boarder-cross and carving areas are also available, providing a wide palette on which to create your own lines.
Off the slopes
Evening entertainments are low key in Vallnord – for a greater choice groups head to Andorra la Vella, the principality’s capital. The city’s old town is characterised by old stone streets and the town square offers stunning view of the Valley of Andorra below, not to mention hosting a series of events throughout the year. In addition to the tax-free shopping in electronic and ski shops, groups can visit the parliament building of Europe’s sixth smallest nation, or visit the swimming pool complex including spa and sauna facilities.
