On The Slopes
Tonale is one of Italy's highest resorts with an extensive ski network of 26 lifts serving 95kms of piste. Situated in the Val di Sole, the season here normally lasts from November to early May and skiing is guaranteed on the Presena glacier.
The resort has recently invested heavily in an array of superb new lifts including a cable car linking Ponte di Legno and Tonale and a cable car providing up to 1800 skiers an hour access to the glacier from the northern ski area of Tonale.
Tonale enjoys an excellent snow record and the resort offers superb progression from sunny, wide open nursery slopes served by seven drag lifts at village level to the longer more challenging runs higher up.
From the half-way point of the Negritella chairlift, the intermediate who takes the 4-seater chairlift to Cima Bleis will be rewarded with a long 4.5km run in spectacular scenery. On the east side of the village there is a covered 4 seater chairlift to take you up to Malga and its welcoming Valbiolo restaurant.
Snow permitting, try the delightful 6km run down to Ponte di Legno, returning in the resorts brand new gondola lift.
For the advanced skier, the southern ski area of Tonale provides some exhilarating challenges and highs -3016m to be exact! From the top of the glacier there is a choice of fast reds and blacks and from 2585m you can ski the 3km pacey Paradiso Black run down to 1875m. A real thrill!
Off The Slopes
There is an ice skating rink, a disco and an interesting variety of shops and bars in Tonale. The nearby Ponte di Legno swimming pool is only €3 on presentation of your lift pass. Bowling is possible in Dimaro. Coach transport is at extra cost for these activities.
